After about two years of wait United have their star winger and us FPL enthusiasts have another FPL asset to add onto our wish-list. Personally I was eagerly waiting for United to announce him so I can learn more about his price.
This got me thinking if there are any other signings that I am looking forward to as an FPL enthusiast. Here is a list of transfers that I am looking forward to as a FPL manager.
I am gonna use expected stats (xG, xA, npxG, etc.) in this post. If you are not familiar with expected stats, I would suggest giving this post a read before going ahead.
Hello there! Every week, I write about all things FPL. Right from Game-week reviews, Game-week previews, FPL trends, captain picks, Buy/Sell/Watchlist/Hold indicators and much more. Come along!
Striker - Brighton
Brighton had pretty solid underlying stats last season. They had accumulated an xGoals tally of 51.6 while only converting 40 goals. I am a fan of the way they play under Graham Potter. I believe that the will do a lot better with a new striker playing instead of Neil Maupay (scored just 8 goals while accumulating an xGoals tally of 13). They were linked to Nicolas Gonzalez from Vfb Stuttgart, but he chose Fiorentina over Brighton. A decent striker will get them many goals and because it is a Brighton striker, we might have a player that will be underpriced. So keep an eye on Brighton’s transfer activity.
Striker - Chelsea
While we are on the topic of strikers, let’s talk about Chelsea’s transfer activity in that area. Chelsea do need a new number 9 as they too alongside Brighton have underperformed their xGoals by a lot. In fact, Chelsea had the third highest xGoals tally in the league last season while they only ranked 8th for actual goals. They are linked to a lot of strikers like Robert Lewandowski, Lukaku, Harry Kane and the Norwegian wunderkind - Erling Haaland. If I am being honest if there was no chance of them getting Haaland, we would’ve stopped hearing about the rumors months ago. WATCH THIS SPACE.
Striker - Manchester City
It’s not that they need a striker desperately, but with a former FPL fan favourite, Sergio Aguero leaving they will need a striker to replace him. Kane has emerged as a favourite to join City. Kane on paper is a perfect striker for Guardiola. Kane will get a ton of goals and assists for City and even with a price tag of 12.5m may offer great value. This might be the most obvious one on here.
Number 10 - Arsenal
Arsenal announced that Emile Smith Rowe will take over the #10 shirt at Arsenal next season but they are still linked to a number 10. James Madison seems to be the favourite to join Arsenal. Now, James Madison is a great player. He has a knack for scoring goals and can definitely improve Arsenal. The underlying stats aren’t that bad and for Arsenal and Madison can help them score more goals. At a price point of 7m, he can provide great value provided he can stay fit.
Number 10 - West Ham
West Ham brought Jesse Lingard on loan last season and boy did he serve them well. West Ham are on lookout for a new number 10 with Jesse Lingard looking increasingly likely to stay at United. A name that I’ve heard come up is Ross Barkley. West Ham are a good team and if they do sign someone in this position, the player will offer great value for a good price.
Center Back - Spurs
Signing a center back or maybe even two center bacs will definitely improve the Spurs team defensively. I am not saying that you MUST get in the CB Spurs sign. Maybe the signing of a new CB that improves the defence and helps keep more clean-sheets means you can have a budget enabler like Dier (who in my opinion is a very great differential) in who gets you points from clean-sheets as well as carries a goal threat from set pieces. He will definitely start considering the new coach will play a back three and he is the only left-footed CB in the team.
Left Back - Brighton
Brighton tend to play a back 3/5 system which means their wingbacks can play a very offensive role. As of now they play Moder, Gross and March in that position but they are rumored to be pursuing a move for the Spanish left back Marc Cucurella. They played a 4-3-3 in their season opener against Burnley. Irrespective of their formation, I think a left back from a pretty solid Brighton defence will definitely be great way to cover for Brighton defence once you start moving away from Sanchez to a higher priced goalkeeper as the season progresses.
